What Resolution Suits Indoor Led Display Best?

Choosing the correct resolution for an indoor LED Display can be difficult. If the resolution is too low, then the content will appear blurry. Conversely, if the resolution is too high, then too much money will be wasted because the screen will be over-specified. No matter if the screen is to be placed in an office, a hotel lobby, or an exhibition hall, the objective is to find a resolution that is practical, while allowing for clear visuals. Desay is a great example, as they have been in the LED Display market for over twenty years. With more than ten thousand full-color LED displays installed, they have experience in a variety of settings; from the Academy Awards, to cozy lobby displays, to corporate lobbies. They understand the resolution various contexts require. Let’s explain the main points, as there is no need to make things more complicated.

What Resolution Suits Indoor Led Display Best?

Start with Viewing Distance – The Most Practical Factor

When choosing a screen's resolution, consider how far people will be from the indoor LED display. If people are standing 10 meters away from the screen, you don’t need super high resolution. However, if they are standing 1 or 2 meters away, like in a small meeting room or a museum exhibit, you will need a higher resolution screen to avoid the display being dramatically pixelated. That’s not the impression you want to leave with museum patrons or guests in a meeting.

The simplest way to remember this is, the closer the viewers are to the screen, the smaller the pixel pitch required. Pixel pitch, the space between each pixel, is measured in millimeters. Smaller measurements mean more pixels are packed into a square meter, meaning a higher resolution display. For example, Desay’s X1.5 model (1.5mm pixel pitch) was used at the 93rd-95th Academy Awards. Why? The audience and cameras were close and they needed to ensure that the visuals were detailed and sharp so they wouldn’t appear fuzzy on live TV. That’s a perfect use case for a small-pitch high-resolution screen.

For distances of about 3 to 5 meters, like in hotel lobbies or large conference rooms, 2.5mm or 3mm pixel pitches work just about perfectly. One of the popular models in the Slim Series, the Desay iSlim, is ultra-slim design at just 39mm thick. It is easy to install on walls and not sticking out. The P2.5/P3 pixel variation provides the perfect balance between picture clarity and cost. For videos and presentations, the price is right because the resolution is brilliant but not excessively brilliant. For even more distance of 6 meters or more, like in an exhibition hall, P4 or P5 is the best choice. Keeping clarity without overspending is achieved with Desay RS Series in these pitches. It is a high-end slim indoor rental panel.

Aligning Resolution with Content Type

The content you display on your indoor LED screen is equally important as the distance of your audience. A screen for small text like dashboards, specs, or data requires a higher resolution than a display used for large videos or logos.

Imagine a control room where staff need to read real-time updates and see live graphs on a data display. For this purpose, Desay’s E1.875 (1.875mm pixel pitch) display, for example, used at a Turkish TV station, is a match. A small pixel pitch means even smaller text is legible and even the operators working with real-time data need not squint to read the small text. Desay’s E1.875 also seems to have vibrant and color uniform brightness across the screen, which helps to read faint text that passes on a low-res screen. This is a strong feature on all high-res Desay’s models, where even the faintest details seem to pop.

However, semi high res is good for video displays where animations and large brand logos are used. Desay also makes for this purpose the RT Series (it is for outdoor, but indoors the RS Series works here) in P3 or P4. A video display does not need high pixel density, and even with a P3 resolution, Desay’s color tech ensures that the video content is immersive. So, if you are displaying large still visuals, do not spend on high resolution, a mid-range resolution display will work perfectly.

Consider Space Size and Aspect Ratio

The size and shape of your indoor space will limit what resolution you can use. A small meeting room can’t accommodate a 4K display that is 7 meters wide—one must simply use something that fits the wall and will not overpower the room. At the same time, your aim should be to match the screen's aspect ratio (typically 16:9 for videos and presentations) to avoid your content being stretched or cropped.

Let's talk numbers. A 1080P resolution (which is the horizontal standard for most presentations and videos) screen requires 1920x1080 pixels. This means that screen with a P2.5 will be about 4.8 meters wide and 2.72 meters tall, perfect for a medium-sized conference room. This is exactly the size that can easily be constructed with clever cabinet designs by Desay such as the iSlim Series' 500x500mm or 500x1000mm cabinets. You simplypiece togetherthe cabinets to achieve the exact dimensions you need, leaving no wasted space.

If your space is larger and you want to enjoy 4K resolution (3840×2160 pixels), you will need a bigger screen too. For a P1.8 screen in 4K, you are looking at a screen that is 7.2 meters wide and 4.32 meters tall, which is perfect for a large exhibition hall or a corporate auditorium. Desay’s customization option is a huge advantage in this case—custom sizes solve your problem of being forced to work with fixed dimensions. Their ultra-slim panels also play a part, because even a big 4K screen won’t take much depth, avoiding the problematic feeling of making the room cramped.

In a small meeting room or at the back office of a retail store, a small screen with lower resolution will also work in those small spaces. For simple presentations, you are looking at a 2 meter wide screen built from Desay’s RS Series in P3 (500×68mm cabinet), which fits in the space perfectly, without overwhelming it. The visuals are still clear, but it fits the space without looking problematic.

Trust Brand Tech for Consistent Performance

Selecting the "right" resolution will change nothing if the indoor LED display lacks quality. Screens that are inexpensive with a high resolution could potentially have uneven brightness, color spots, dead pixels, or other issues that ultimately destroy the whole effect. For this reason, working with a endorsed company will make a difference. Desay is a perfect example.

Desay invests a lot in their industry and has a 15,000-square-meter R&D industrial zone in addition to receiving accolades such as the 2024 Red Dot Design Award for the RS and RT Series. Their small-pitch monitors, such as the X1.5 and E1.875, contain high-quality components to ensure all components of every pixel functions every single time. There are no longer bright and dark splotches unevenly distributed. They are masterfully uniform and clear. They also have a reputation for strict quality control. Their advertised resolution is the exact resolution you will get.

Desay has knowledge of and vast experience with global projects, which permits them to consider resolution in practical applications. Their 3D display in Tokyo's Shibuya Plaza, for instance, involves complex resolution manipulation. Even though it is designed for outdoor use, their indoor technology is comparable. It captures an immersive 3D experience using excellent resolution techniques in 3D and dimensionally spaced layers. Their understanding of resolution goes beyond mere pixel density; it encompasses the interplay of the screen with light, content, and the environment. For instance, if you have content, a space, and a budget, their customer support will help you to identify the resolution that will work for you.

Ultimately, the ideal resolution for your indoor LED Display meets your space, content, and budget. Purchasers should understand that the most expensive resolution available does not mean optimal—it should simply improve the content displayed and cut unnecessary costs. There is no need to overcomplicate things with the right solutions from manufacturers such as Desay which range from P1.5 to P5, including slim and rental modular options.
